Delayna, Gabe, and a friend was in a bad car accident in
Beaumont, TX on Thursday, 11/08/07 when Gabe disappeared.
Delayna and her friend Tim went to the hospital and Tim
was hurt pretty badly.
The hunt was on for Gabe and people were so nice to help
us get the word out. The Beaumont Police Dept. was looking
out for him as well as a few very nice ladies.
The first day, Curtis (Dog Daddy) drove me, Molly and Nate
to Beaumont to see if Molly could pick up a scent. She worked
hard all day and she picked up a scent and drug Delayna's
mom, Diana and me for miles, but no Gabe. Curtis combed
the neighborhoods talking to people and no one had seen
him.
Delayna's Grandmother, Dorothy went to pick Delayna up
and bring her out to see us when they got into a wreck!
Someone hit them from behind and Delayna ended up in the
hospital AGAIN! She was released that night.
The next day Barbara and her three-legged hound, Annie
went out again. Annie led us around the same areas that
Molly had but the scent was 48 hours old and we gave up
at dark - downhearted.
The next day Diana and and a group from her church combed
other subdivisions, She was also on the phone for three
days talking to the police, news media, newspapers, family
members, and keeping up with Tim's condition.
Gabe was on TV as missing and we just knew that we had
to find him with all the media and so many people looking.
As days went by we all grew more worried but did not give
up.
Tuesday, almost a week later, the call came from a lady
named Melinda saying that she believed that she has our
dog!! Her husband Cable found him on the road and knew that
a Standard Poodle puppy had no business running the roads..
They lived many miles from where he was lost.
She went on to say that they knew he had to belong to someone
special because he was so well trained and in an e-mail
she wrote: "We are still amazed how a trained service
dog would come into our lives so abruptly, I mean that just
doesn't happen every day. And being that my 10 yr old son
has been having petit mal seizures since he was about 4
or 5 yrs old it just makes the whole situation/event extraordinary.
It was interesting how Gabe interacted with Tyler. He was
all around friendly with all of us but what caught our attention
was when my son Tyler had an episode and Gabe stood next
to him as if he knew something was special about this dog."
So, Gabe is back with his family, we are all sleeping better
at night and happy to have our baby back.
Thank you to everyone that helped and prayed for his
safe return.
